"Why Does It Feel Like The Universe Hates Me?!!" Hang On Sister, It's Just Mercury Retrograde. May 06, 2016 18:30

I was having lunch today with my friend Michelle, talking about all kinds of life stuff, when she said "Is there something going on with the planets or something?? Things have felt really off lately!" I totally get it, and like her, I was feeling it too.

Well, things have been a little "off", sometimes even to the point of feeling like the Universe is conspiring against you (which is never true!), and most likely it is because the planet Mercury is in retrograde.

Now, I travel in some circles that throw around the term ”Oh! Mercury's in retrograde!" and instantly everyone nods and says, "Well that explains it!”. But I thought maybe it doesn't explain it to everyone, and actually, what the hell does it mean anyway?

Mercury is closest to the Sun and because of its orbit and the relation to Mercury in our orbit, a couple of times a year Mercury zings by, kicks up a lot of "planetary dust" and then appears in the sky to slow down and go backwards. There is so much science and astronomy I don't understand without a lot more research and focus, but I have the astrologer's take on it boiled down to this.

Mercury rules the areas of communication, formal contracts, computers, technology, transportation and travel. During these retrograde periods (current retrograde period is April 28-May22) you are often advised to avoid large dollar purchases, expect problems with computers and communication devices, travel delays, and absolutely DO NOT sign any contracts if you can help it.

People often warn to NEVER buy any electronics if you can help it during this time (or any large ticket item) because chances are very high you're going to have a problem with it in the long run. The same can be said for entering into those contracts as well. May sound like a load of hooey to you, but I always say, why risk it?

Things outside of yourself at these periods can feel especially "beyond your control" and be very challenging. So what can you do?

Well, the best defense against things outside of yourself going haywire is to make sure that your inner self is in order. Meaning, it’s a great time to slow down and take a look at what is going on around you and see what you’re place in it is. That you can control.

They say when Mercury is in retrograde it is in a shadow period, and crosses it’s own shadow. So during a retrograde period you want to acknowledge your own shadow -where your triggers, wounds and dark side may hang out, and make sure that your words and actions aren’t reflecting that part of yourself.

The best practice for this is to try and start your day in a few quiet moments, breathing deeply, and connecting to the energy you want to carry that day. Intend to not just react to what happens that day, but to instead, when triggered, pause, take a moment, and act from a place of love. Make sure your shadow isn't doing the talking for you, nothing good comes from that!  Instead, be aware, stay heart centered and remember everyone else is experiencing this too...they just might not have as much insight as you!

Mercury retrogrades several times a year, (in 2016 it will retrograde again August 30- September 22, and December 9- January 8, 2017) and each period carries different challenges.

This particular retrograde period puts a lot of focus on getting in touch with deeply held memories, old wounds, and clearing karma. This may be a time where seemingly difficult encounters (maybe someone from your past shows up unexpectedly), are actually excellent opportunities for you to let go, heal the wound and clear some karma. Pretty cool idea right? I’m all for looking for a purpose for all the crap life throws at us! Mercury retrograde certainly will provide lots of situations for us to stretch and grow!!

So there you have it, in a nutshell, my take on Mercury Retrograde. I would love to hear your experiences! You can share here, or head over to my Facebook group I created just for my Insiders.

Carnelian-Stone of Courage April 09, 2014 12:13 1 Comment

When I think of Carnelian, I think warmth, comfort, energy, I generally wear it when I am needing those exact things. A stone of varying shades of orange, carnelian is a great supporter and grounding force.

Rose Quartz- The Gentle Healer February 03, 2014 00:00

Rose Quartz was a stone that I quite often overlooked in my earlier days as a jewelry designer. Pink is not my color, never wore it, never liked it, always thought of it as a weak, girly color. Sorry, that just how I felt. I would pepper it in some designs here and there, but mostly to appease customers that requested it, and a lot of women like pink.

Then my Mom got cancer, and everything changed.

OM is to me... November 02, 2013 12:05

In any yoga studio around the world you may see the symbol for Om, or even hear it chanted. You don’t even have to actually go to a yoga class, you are probably starting to see this symbol pop up more and more in mainstream Western culture. Since it is a symbol, and not a word you may recognize, you may have wondered “What the heck does that mean?”.
